A mobile sports wagering proposal in Maine has successfully navigated the state’s House of Representatives, overcoming a regulatory obstacle. The proposal is now destined for the state Senate and ultimately the governor’s desk for final authorization.
The Maine mobile sports betting bill has cleared the state House of Representatives and will now proceed to the state Senate, followed by the governor’s review for final approval. The bill is anticipated to undergo scrutiny by the state Appropriations Committee (scheduled to convene as early as today, July 1). If the Senate endorses the bill following this review, Governor Janet Mills will have the opportunity to sign it into law.
Governor Mills previously rejected a similar mobile sports wagering bill in January 2020. The revised bill is anticipated to incorporate updated responsible gambling protocols and is considered more likely to gain approval, although local reports suggest the governor remains cautious.
Earlier this month, the Senate advanced the bill to the next stage of approval with a vote of 23-12.
