An Australian wagering firm, BlueBet, landed in trouble with Victorian regulators over a campaign of billboards that overtly focused on a youthful demographic. The Victorian Gambling and Casino Control Commission (VGCCC) didn’t go easy on them, issuing a substantial $50,000 AUD penalty for violating regulations regarding gambling promotions.

The business attempted to feign unawareness, asserting they were oblivious that their advertisements were situated in locations visible to young individuals. Nevertheless, the judge wasn’t convinced, particularly given the billboards’ strategic placement in areas frequented by males aged 15 to 54. The judge firmly emphasized that gambling promotions have no business being in public areas where minors might encounter them, and this ruling acts as a stern caution to other wagering companies contemplating bending the rules.

Although Justice Thomas recognized the gravity of the infractions and contemplated more severe consequences, he opted for a less stringent judgment. BlueBet’s genuine contrition, their collaboration with the Victorian Gaming and Casino Regulatory Authority, and the measures they’ve implemented to avert future problems significantly influenced his ruling. It’s evident they’re treating this matter with the utmost seriousness, striving to guarantee such an event never recurs, and maintaining transparency with oversight bodies throughout the entire process.

This development follows closely on BlueBet’s recent proclamation regarding their acquisition of Betr, an action that demonstrates their commitment to becoming a prominent force within the sector.
